Authorities in St. Petersburg have approved a $5.5bn energy-saving and energy efficiency program to run till 2020, Interfax reports.
Under plans, the funds are to be spent on construction of new energy supply facilities, modernization of boiler houses, installation of power meters in residential apartment blocks.
As a result of finance, fuel economy in the city is expected to total 3.1 million tons by 2015, and 8.6 million tons by 2020.
