Kendrick D. White (48), has extensive venture capital fund management experience as well as corporate finance consulting and direct executive management experience, accumulated during his 19 years of full time work in Russia. In 2005, Mr. White founded Marchmont Capital Partners, LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on VC and PE finance raising in various innovation sectors. This US registered enterprise is based in Nizhny Novgorod and has developed a wide network of consulting partnerships in key cities across the RF. In 2007, Mr. White created the Marchmont Media division which published the Marchmont Investment Guide to Russia journal and currently operates the www.Marchmontnews.com website which covers regional investment news for finance professionals. Since 2008, Marchmont has been responsible for organizing the “Business Leaders Investment Forum”, a monthly event held in key regional capital cities across the RF. This event brings together scientific innovators, business owners, investors and political leaders – together with a wide range of expert speakers from Moscow and abroad - with the aim of promoting regional manufacturing investments into modernization. Mr. White is an expert in the field of early stage innovation project commercialization and was appointed in 2006 as one of the five private sector members of the US Russia Innovation Council on High Technologies, (ICHT), a Presidential Commission focused on developing policy proposals for the Russian government aimed at promoting Russia’s innovation economy and improving commercial business ties between the US and Russia technology sectors. Mr. White is also a member of the Independent Directors Association, (IDA), and Marchmont also holds membership in the US Russia Business Council (USRBC), the Russo British Chamber of Commerce, (RBCC) as well as many other regional Trade Associations. From 1998 to 2005, Mr. White was Director of the Quadriga Central Russia Regional Venture Fund (CR RVF), a USD $50.0 million private equity fund financed by the EBRD and the German KfW. He oversaw the implementation of numerous successful investment projects during this time, including Nizhpharm, now part of the STADA Group, Bridgetown Foods, a top FMCG snack food producer, and Multiflex, the leading flexible packaging producer in Russia. Other co-investments made by the CR RVF included; ROC, ERA Trading, Speech Technology, Pekar and Morion electronics. Between 1995 and 1998, Mr. White worked in the Corporate Finance Division of Price Waterhouse Coopers, where he was specifically seconded as a Senior Advisor to the Russian Privatization Center (RPC) and its Volga Vyatsky branch division in Nizhny Novgorod. Mr. White was responsible for training 22 Russian consultants in three provincial regions of Central Russia on the development of a self sustainable investment advisory center for SME businesses seeking market expansion and growth capital. Between 1992 and 1995, Mr. White worked as an advisor to the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Administration and the “EPI center” think tank, where he focused his efforts on developing post privatization SME development programs, and establishing one of Russia’s first training centers dedicated to emerging entrepreneurs. This work resulting in numerous new company formations and helped to establish the region as a leader in Russia’s reform process and conversion from a command to a market driven economy. Prior to arriving in Russia, Mr. White worked from 1985 to 1992 at ABN/Amro - LaSalle Bank, in Chicago, IL, in various management positions in Strategic Planning, Cash Mgt and M&A. Mr. White holds an MBA in Finance & Int’l Business from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management (1990), Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, and a BA degree in International Economics from Stetson University (1985), DeLand, FL. Mr. White lived full time in the city of Nizhny Novgorod and is married with two children.

Yan Ryazantsev
Director of Investment and Expertise Department, Russian Venture Company, (RVC), Moscow

Science and technology manager, engineer, Yan Ryazantsev is one of the pioneers of the technological business in the USSR. He graduated from the Tambov Chemical Engineering Institute, majoring in Automation of Chemical Production. In 1987 he established one of the first independent profit-making scientific organizations—Foundation for Technology Creativity. In 1990 he founded and headed New Systems Co.,—one of the few innovation companies of that period. In 90s, the company funded and fostered several projects on alternative energy, electrophysics and instrument engineering. Since 2002 till 2007 he was head of Investment Projects and Promising Technologies Department in the state-owned Central Research and Technology Institute of Russia (Moscow).

Since 2007 Yan has been Investment Director, subsequently Director of Investments and Expertise Department, of Russian Venture Company—a state owned fund of funds. His track record with RVC includes hands-on management of Tenders One and Two and, in the follow-up of these tenders, establishment of a number of closed-end venture capital funds to a total capitalization of RUB 19.8 billion. Additionally, his successful management efforts allowed RVC to launch two international RVC backed funds. In 2010 he was elected member of the Management Board of RVC.

Organized and participated in the Regional Sessions of Practical Consulting held by Russian Venture Company. The sessions were targeted at seeking innovators and entrepreneurs and teaching them skills to create and commercialize venture investment projects. Involved in the implementation of the Building Innovative Education System national project. An expert in venture financing, general management, business planning, creation of business models, strategic development, team building and marketing, Kirill Bulatov has a wide experience of founding companies and consulting Russian companies on venture projects and building management teams for startup projects. He has carried out several venture projects in trading, IT, new materials, jewelry industry and transport. His areas of expertise include strategic management, venture company setup, theory and practice of commercialization of scientific research results, team building and marketing.

In the late ‘90s Jon Hellevig established Avenir in Moscow which consisted of a legal advisory, accountancy service and executive search. Mr Hellevig has been actively working on the Russian market since 1990 in various areas of corporate law and financial administration. Mr Hellevig deals in particular with investment consulting, corporate governance culture and issues. Mr. Hellevig’s field of specialization is Russian tax law. He is also active in scientific work on the philosophy of law and presently involved in a study of the coming about of Russian law and rule-by-justice issues in Russia. Jon Hellevig has published several books on Russian tax and labor laws in addition to contributing with white papers on various topics in Russian law. He regularly lectures at international scientific and investor seminars on these topics. Before entering the Russian market he worked at banks in Finland, first in legal positions, but later in more finance related and managerial positions. Since January 2009 Evgeny Savin has been a manager of the UNOVA.RU Internet project: news of the innovation and venture market. Mr Savin has an extensive experience of work for Russian print media and television companies. Between 2006 and 2007 he set up and managed the Internet service at publishing house Arguments and Facts. In 2007-2008 he was a publisher of regional projects of SUP Fabrik (development and promotion of the Livejournal project in Ukraine). He created iCamp, the largest informal conference in Russia. Director of DATIGRA as of September 2008, he set up a startup section at the Innovation Convention (www.iConvention.ru) Evgeny Savin studied journalism at Lomonosov Moscow State University.
Daniel Klein

American/Canadian Daniel Klein started his career in the 1980’s as a patent lawyer working for one of the world’s largest patent firms based in New York. In 2005 Daniel Klein joined Hellevig, Klein & Usov after working for some time in the Moscow offices of a Russian/American law firm. Daniel Klein is also a partner in Avenir Accounting. In addition to working as a lawyer, Daniel Klein has worked in various business capacities including as the founding European managing director for a NYSE listed high tech company, as in investment officer for a Siemen’s owned Vienna-based VC investing in Russian/Eastern European high tech companies and as a strategic business consultant for one of Frances leading smart card players. Daniel Klein also has experience working in both the Russian retail and real estate sector. Daniel Klein has been living and working in Russia since 2002 with his first business experiences in Russia dating back to 1993. Daniel Klein deals with both foreign and Russian companies who are or have been investing in Russia and including all start up and expansion issues. In 1993 he became an Assistant to the Speaker of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Legislature. In 1997, Evgeny worked in the office of the President of the German Parliament and, in 2001, in the office of Rt. Hon. Alun Michael, MP at the House of Commons in London, UK. In April 2002 Evgeny was invited to join the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Government as a Deputy Minister - Deputy Chief of Staff. In June 2003, Evgeny joined Intel Corporation as Public Affairs Manager for Nizhny Novgorod and Sarov. In March 2005 he was promoted to Country Community and Regional Government Relations Manager. A member of worldwide Intel Corporate Affairs team, he has to build a strong and positive relationship with federal district, regional and local authorities. He drives corporate social responsibility projects including corporate volunteerism program and is a designate Intel spokesperson. Evgeny is a Master Instructor of the Intel University. In 2008 he entered top 10 of the Best Public Relations Managers of Russia, according to National Managers’ Association and Kommersand Daily. A native Russian, Evgeny is fluent in English, German, Italian and Spanish. He is a passionate pilot of flight simulators.

In 2007 – 2008 I held the position of assistant lecturer, from 2008 senior lecturer of CAD System Department in VSTU. In 2002 I started to work on outsourcing software projects inside a student team. In 2009 we registered our own company (Singularis Lab Ltd., http://www.singularis-lab.com), where I got the position of CEO. In 2010 we got the status of Microsoft Partners. In 2003 I participated as an intern-student in Intel Summer School, in 205 in Samsung Summer Internship. In 2007 I took part in the internship in Belgium in the course of the TEMPUS project concerning business and scientific organizations interaction. In 2009 I took part in Microsoft Research HPC School, in 2010 in Youth High Performance Computing School. In 2009 – 2010 I also worked on a research project in Vienna Technology University. Since 2003 I have led student teams of VSTU which participates in different Computer Science contests (ACM ICPC, Microsoft Imagine Cup etc.). The main successes in this area of activity are following: reaching an ACM ICPC semifinal in 2006 (1 team), 2008 (2 teams), 2009 (2 teams); reaching a Microsoft Imagine Cup semifinal in 2008 and 2009 (the 3rd place in Russia); the 2nd place and silver medal of Open Contest in Taganrog (2009 and 2010); the 1st place in Intel Grid contest (2009); the 2nd place in Softline Dev Generation’09. Also I am a member of the following IT professional societies: Start in Garage, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
