18 Feb '09
A “Sapsan” (Velaro RUS) high-speed train made in Germany to order from Russian Railways has been transported by ferry to Kaliningrad Region, RIA Novosti reported today, citing a source in Kaliningrad Railway.

A contract with Germany’s Siemens for eight “Sapsans” for Russian Railways was signed on May 18, 2006, and this is the first one, the source said. Siemens is also contracted for 30-year technical maintenance of the trains, he added.

Under plans, the trains capable of running at 250-330 km/h are to serve the Moscow – St. Petersburg and Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod routes.
