Coal miners spend $4m to build roads

9 Oct '08
Blocked from using public highways, coal firms Nordal and Razrez Yuzhny have announced plans to build their own roads.

Nordal will spend $2m a byway motorway around Prokopyevsky district in Kemerovo region, while another Kemerovo's coal company Razrez Yuzhny is currently building a $2m byway road from its mine to rail station Krasulino, Kommersant reports.

The companies have to invest their funds in road construction because heavyweight coal trucks were restricted from using public motorways in May 2008.

Regional vice-governor Alexander Naumov explained at the time that the government had to take such measures because heavy loaded trucks had been ruining public motorways.
