$690m plus in 2008 Far East Rail investment posted

More than $690m was invested in construction works and upgrades at Far East Railways in 2008, news agency Arendator.ru reported today.

According to the agency, the funds were invested in completion of projects under construction, upgrades of rail tracks, bridges and stations, purchases of new locomotives and cars, and the introduction of an automated electricity metering system.

One of the most advanced projects finalized last year was Kuzbass – Far East Transportation Hub that is now expected to dramatically enhance traffic capacity along the route. The project was worth $200m.

More than 214 kilometers of tracks were reconstructed, Arendator.ru added.

Far East Railways is a part of Russian Railways.
