Altayaskaya Dolina SEZ 'needs $846m'

Construction on the Altayskaya Dolina tourist special economic zone (SEZ) in Altay region will require $846m investment, it was reported today.

Vladimir Poletayev, head of the Altay division of RosSEZ, the federal body charged with setting up and managing the country's SEZ's, said investment would be on a private/state parternship basis.

Mr Poletayev added that he expected private equity investment to account for $423m of the total needed.

The announcement comes as further cost breakdowns were announced. Infrastructural elements at the resort are to cost $179m to build, while road building will require $217m.

The 850-hecare resort is to be situated on the right bank of the Katun river, 25km from the regional capital Gorno-Altaysk.

Several large firms, among them Yakutia-based ALROSA and hotel chain Inturist, are reported to be interested in investing.
