Golden Telecom's $27m regional broadband move

Moscow's telecom provider Golden Telecom (Vympelcom's subsidiary) has bought three companies in Barnaul, Nizhny Novgorod and Tyumen for $27m, Kommersant reported today.

Golden Telecom has purchased 100% of Barnaul's Altaygrif and Tyumen's Komtel and acquired the remaining 45% from Nizhny Novgorod's Agentstvo Delovoy Svyazi.

The aggregate client base of these three companies exceeds 20,000 people.

Vympelcom's Ekaterina Osadchaya emphasized that the acquisition was part of Golden Telecom's strategy to expand into regional broadband Internet markets.
