5D printer developer raises funds

The Venture Fund of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) managed by Kama Flow, in which the VEB Ventures venture fund is also a member, invested 100 million rubles in the Russian manufacturer of 5D printers and software Stereotech (Resident of the Skolkovo Fund). This was reported by the press service of VEB Ventures.
5D printer developer Stereotech has raised funds from Kama Flow. In the near future, the startup plans to expand into the markets of Europe, the USA and China. The 5DTech technology developed by the company can be applied in completely different industries: aviation, automotive, prosthetics, construction. It also makes it possible to achieve record levels of strength (a sample of ABS plastic gives a strength of 130 MPa) and printing speed, unattainable by 3D printers, said Oleg Teplov, CEO of VEB Ventures, whose words are quoted in the message.
According to Anatoly Tulaev, co-founder, development director of Stereotech, sooner or later everything will come to the point that consumables and spare parts for industrial equipment will be printed on the territory of the manufacturers factory, with a multiple reduction in cost.
According to the experience of Severstal, the savings from one printer at an enterprise today can reach up to 6 million rubles a year, and the payback period for one machine will be 2 months, cited in Tulaev's words in the message.
Economic effect and market expansion

The possible economic effect of using a printer farm at a medium-sized plant can be, according to company experts, 200 million rubles a year. The cost of one gram of printed product varies depending on the material used. For the most popular ABS plastic in the industry, one gram of printed products will cost 2 rubles. For metals, the cost of a gram will be 40-50 rubles, for a composite with continuous carbon fiber - 160 rubles.

Another feature of the startup and its technology, as noted in the report, is the production of typical parts (rather than unique samples), which prevail in production. This approach implies expanding the additive printing market itself, rather than fighting in a competitive and mature 3D printing market. The problem that 5D printers solve is the dependence of enterprises on supplies and lockdowns, with the risk of stopping production.

And, using Stereotech as an example, this is a significant potential in terms of solving import substitution problems: parts of equipment, which we mainly have foreign production, can now be manufactured directly at the enterprise or in the laboratory, without resorting to the services of foreign suppliers, added the general director of ANO Platform of the National Technology Initiative Dmitry Peskov, whose words are given in the message.
