The Expert Council of the Astrakhan Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Lotos approved the project of the GBS-Lotos company for the production of microbial protein from natural gas. It is planned to establish an annual production of 21 thousand tons of protein-vitamin concentrates for enrichment of agricultural feed and 10 thousand tons of protein concentrates for the food industry.

Investments in the project will amount to more than 10 billion rubles, and the first stage of the enterprises will be launched in 2024. The initiator of the project is a resident of the Skolkovo innovation complex - the Russian company Giprobiosintez LLC, which occupies a leading position in the development of technology for obtaining microbial biomass from natural gas.

General Director of Giprobiosintez LLC Pavel Nyunkov said that the company plans to reach production capacity in the next 7 years, and in case of successful implementation of the project, gradually increase it to 100 thousand tons per year. It is planned to launch the first stage of production in 2024, where 65 jobs will be created.

For the implementation of the project, the management company of the SEZ Lotos selected the required land plot with an area of ​​9.5 hectares.
