Mail.ru Group has bought 100% of the developer of the cloud gaming platform Playkey, said Playkey founder Egor Guryev. The deal between Mail.ru Group and Playkey will be completed in 2021. Guriev did not disclose its amount.
“We liked the offer, we agreed to it, the offer was good,” said the founder of Playkey.
First integration with Mail's Armata game.ru Playkey, according to him, made back in 2015. Since then, the companies have discussed possible options for cooperation, he said.
Playkey is a cloud gaming platform that allows you to launch modern powerful video games from any device, even a weak device with an Internet connection. In the summer of 2017, the company raised $ 2.8 million from IIDF, and at the end of the year entered the ICO (cryptocurrency placement), during which it raised about $ 10 million. For several years, Guriev will be integrating Playkey technologies into the MY.GAMES cloud, a gaming directions of Mail.ru Group. He will be part of this unit.
“As a leading player in the market, we are actively investing in the development of technologies and services that will become the new reality of tomorrow,” said Boris Dobrodeev, CEO of Mail.ru Group.
According to him, the cloud gaming service MY.GAMES Cloud was created so that people can play “even the newest and most demanding” games “at maximum settings from almost any device.” Playkey technologies will help Mail.ru “quickly implement plans for the development of the service” and will become “an incentive for the development of the gaming ecosystem of the entire company,” he said.
Prior to the conclusion of the deal with Mail.ru Group, 29.93% each in LLC Game Solutions (legal entity Playkey) belonged to Evgeny Zhulanov and Natalya Sutormina, it follows from SPARK data. Another 20.18% belonged to the Internet Initiatives Development Fund (IIDF), 6.8% belonged to the Slovak Playkey Holding and 6.58% each belonged to Vadim Andreev and Alexei Lykov.
Zhulanov is a former partner of businessman Konstantin Malofeev. He, as well as venture investor Dmitry Sutormin, joined Playkey's board of directors. Sutormin invested in the company at a very early stage in 2013. Both he and IIDF are leaving the project with a profit, Guryev said.
