Unmanned vehicle successfully tested on St. Petersburg roads

15 Jul '20
On July 10, the StarLine unmanned vehicle successfully passed the first tests on the roads of St. Petersburg.

To test the autonomous driving algorithms, the area of the Champ de Mars was chosen - in this part of the city there is quite active traffic, a lot of traffic lights, road signs and pedestrian crossings, which allowed StarLine engineers to test the unmanned driving algorithms they developed in real traffic conditions. During an autonomous trip, a test engineer was in the drone cabin to control the movement.
We are pleased with the results. All the algorithms that were previously worked out in closed areas have successfully proved themselves in real-life traffic conditions today. The car recognized traffic lights and other cars, passed pedestrians and carried out lanes. We got a lot of useful data and new information about what algorithms have yet to work on, says Boris Ivanov, project manager at the StarLine Unmanned Vehicle.
In December 2019, the StarLine drone showed the best result in the final of the Up Great technology competition Winter City at the USS training ground. The StarLine car covered 50 km of the track simulating the road conditions of a real city in winter conditions in 4 hours, taking into account the penalty minutes. In March 2020, the StarLine drone passed a series of road tests and received a conclusion on the car's safety compliance. This conclusion makes it possible to test an unmanned vehicle on public roads in the framework of Government Decision No. 1415.

The Up Great Winter City competition was organized by RVC, the Skolkovo Foundation and ASI as part of the National Technology Initiative. Five contestants, including the StarLine team, demonstrated the readiness of their unmanned vehicles for testing in difficult road and weather conditions in Russian cities.
