Nizhny Novgorod region and the federal navigation operator NIS GLONASS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the sector of navigation, regional officials report.
The document was reportedly signed by Valery Shantsev, the Governor of Nizhny Novgorod region, and Aleksander Gurko, the Director General of NIS GLONASS at the 16th International Science and Industry Forum “Rossiya Edinaya”.
The goal of the agreement is to create the single navigation-information space in Nizhny Novgorod region, which is to be integrated into the Russian and international system. Forming a strategic partnership with NIS GLONASS is to support social-economic and technological development of the region, mass implementation of GLONASS technologies, higher level of life safety, wider range of services, based on navigation technologies.
According to Valery Shantsev, implementation of complex solutions, using satellite navigation technologies GLONASS in the region is to facilitate growth of life quality of population, introduction of modern management methods, and, as a whole, faster social and economic development of Nizhny Novgorod region, as well as adjacent regions, with total population of over 10 million people.
An important component of the document is creation of the intellectual transport system (ITS), including forming of toll roads complex and monitoring of transport vehicles, carrying dangerous cargos, in Nizhny Novgorod region. The cooperation, implied by the Memorandum, is to be carried out under the regional program, which is currently being developed jointly by NIS GLONASS and Nizhny Novgorod regional Government.
“I believe that cooperation between Nizhny Novgorod region and NIS GLONASS is to facilitate solving for transport objectives in the region. Specifically, creation of the ITS is to result in more efficient management of transport complex in the region,” Aleksander Gurko added.
