Rusnano and Thunder Sky to launch $465m batteries plant

State corporation Rusnano and Chinese Thunder Sky Group intend to set up a $465m JV to manufacture lithium – ion batteries in Novosibirsk, Rusnano reports.

Under plans, Rusnano is to invest over $68m and loan another $190m to the project; Thuder Sky is to make $68m contribution in money, technologies and intellectual property; and an as-yet-unnamed investor is to loan $139m to the JV.

The plant is reportedly to make batteries to be installed in buses and micro-buses with electric engines. The plant’s projected production capacity is to allow to equip over 12,000 buses annually.

The plant is scheduled to be put into commission in H2 2011.
