Tomsk-based firm Svet XXI Veka (21st Century Light) and science and research institute for semiconductors NIIPP, with support from state corporation Rusnano, intend to launch $270m production of semiconductor lamps in Tomsk, Kommersant reports.
Under the project, the companies are to launch series full-cycle production of semiconductor light sources for household and industrial use, starting with growing sapphire crystals and silicon carbide and finishing with assemble of semiconductor light sources.
The scientific part of the project is reportedly to be provided by NIIPP, Tomsk Technical University and Tomsk University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics.
The final products assembly is to be carried out at premises of Tomsk Electric Lamps Plant, which owns 19.99% in 21st Century Light.
Under plans, by 2016 the complex is to annually make 15 million lamps.
