Samsung Electronics has announced Samsung Smart App Challenge 2012, an international contest for developers of mobile applications.

The contest will be held in two categories – Samsung Apps Super Apps and Best S Pen Apps. 80 winners will share a $4.08m prize fund and other product promotion bonuses.

The contest welcomes mobile application developers from all over the world. Applicants need to submit applications on the contest website (www.smartappchallenge.com) and register their apps in the Samsung Apps shop.

According to Kang-Hyun Kwon, the senior vice-president of the Media Solution Center division, the competition is expected to “foster growth of an eco-system for the Samsung GALAXY Tab and GALAXY Note devices.”

The winners will be selected in two categories. The winners of the Samsung Apps Super Apps category will be picked by users; 30 most downloaded games and 30 non-game applications will receive money prizes. In the Best S Pen App category, professional judges will select 20 innovative applications that use the electronic S Pen in a most interesting way.

Winners will get monetary prizes, as well as Samsung’s marketing support globally. They will get the opportunity to promote their applications on the Samsung official webpages, social networks and other resources, including Samsung Mobile, Samsung Apps and Samsung Developers.
