Artificial intelligence diagnoses lung damage in 15 seconds

3 Nov '21
Russian scientists use artificial intelligence to diagnose lung damage due to coronavirus in less than a minute, Sciberia, which has developed a new technique, said.

The resident of the Yakutia Technopark and Skolkovo have found a way to determine lung damage during COVID-19 in record time and to level the fatigue of health workers that has accumulated during the pandemic.
Artificial intelligence processes images of CT studies with high speed and increased accuracy: today we have achieved an average image processing speed of about 15 seconds, and the accuracy of studies is up to 98.5 percent, leveling human fatigue, he said co-founder of the project Anton Lomakin.
He noted that under normal conditions, a doctor needs at least 30-40 minutes of full-time work to decipher each CT scan.

According to Lomakin, the technology can reduce the burden on doctors, especially during the aggravation of the epidemiological situation, facilitate their work and help save hundreds of lives.
Already in 2020, the development was successfully applied to detect COVID-19 viral pneumonia in medical institutions in Yakutia. And today, with the assistance of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Sakha, the Sciberia diagnostic system has already been successfully used in four largest medical institutions of the republic, Lomakin noted.
Earlier it was reported that the startups of the Yakutia Technopark and the North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU) helped the republic in the fight against coronavirus. When diagnosing patients, the Intelligent Radiological Information System (IRIS) is used, which detects coronavirus pneumonia based on computed tomography images with an accuracy of 95 percent.
