Troitsk Engineering Center created an analyzer to detect viruses in 30 minutes

Specialists of Troitsk Engineering Center (part of the TechnoSpark Group of Companies, a subsidiary of the Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs (FIEP) of the RUSNANO Group) have developed an analyzer that can detect dangerous viruses in the environment and biological fluids in 30 minutes , including the new coronavirus COVID-19.
“The more acute the problem, the more hype, the more collective time is wasted. In recent weeks, the hype level in relation to new technologies that help fight the virus has been growing day by day,” commented Denis Kovalevich, Director General of the TechnoSpark group of companies - “On Monday, the new development of the Trinity Engineering Center startup, the IndicatorBio analyzer, also hit federal radars.

The device, which was developed over the past two years for a wide range of biosafety tasks, was able to quickly be rebuilt for analysis on COVID-19 with a speed sufficient to compete with other devices. Most media outlets, of course, described this as a victory already won.

The ethics of technology business is a continuous correction of expectations. It is important to understand that before this technology is launched to the market, it will pass firstly, a series of final tests and improvements within the technological startup itself, secondly, official medical registration (together with partners from the Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology), and thirdly, setting up for serial production (together with contract companies of TechnoSpark). If at any of these steps the startup does not run into an insurmountable barrier, the first serial devices will appear this summer. And just like for all those who are now working with a pandemic every day, the most important thing for a startup team is not to be disturbed and distracted by spinning around a hype wave.”
The device that received the name Indicator-BIO, created by order and in cooperation with the Russian State Medical University (RSMU) named after N.I. Pirogov. The work was carried out within the framework of the Federal Target Program for the Creation of the National System of Chemical and Biological Safety. Experimental batches of the device and consumables were produced.

The Indicator-BIO analyzer using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) - a highly accurate method of molecular genetic diagnosis - has the ability to detect up to four pathogens at a time. The duration of one test is from 30 minutes. Together with partners, the device developed a line of test systems in the format of microfluidic cartridges, including for the determination of the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Currently, the device along with test systems are being tested.
“The device allows testing in a very short time - only 30 minutes. The other day, he was introduced (to the head of the Federal Biomedical Agency - approx.) Veronika Skvortsova. She praised what inspires. Our task is to carry out clinical trials and obtain permission as soon as possible, ”said Anatoly Chubais, Chairman of the Board of FIEP RUSNANO, on the air of the Russia 24 television channel.

“Troitsk Engineering Center is ready to produce these devices in series since mid-summer of this year, an increase in production capacity, if necessary, can be ensured by the investment and technical capabilities of the TechnoSpark infrastructure, ”its Director General Denis Kovalevich confirmed.
