Dmitry Grishin, co-founder of internet giant Mail.ru, has invested $25m into his own New York-based investment company Grishin Robotics that will invest into startups, working in the sector of personal robot technologies, news agency reports citing the company.
Dmitry Grishin, “In the last decades global innovation investment went mostly into Internet and computer technology projects. At the same time much less attention has been paid to robot technologies, which have as serious potential of drastically changing every day life of people all over the world. While industrial and military robot technologies have been developing quite actively, personal robot technology sector today lacks finance on development and commercialization of new products and technologies, and also lacks recognition among potential consumers.”
According to Mr. Grishin, in the next few years global economic, social and cultural trends will foster development of robot technologies. Among the facilitating factors are aging planet population in need of affordable, high-quality medical services and treatment, and the youth’s high requirements toward education, every-day life level and leisure.
Grishin Robotics will reportedly provide capital to startups, engaged in personal robot technology sector that have already developed competitive technologies and products but lack finance for mass production. The fields of most interest are education, medicine, transport, entertainment, and household technologies. Grishin Robotics will also share unique experience of building successful high-tech companies and provide consulting, along with HR, PR and other business-process services.
