Designers of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) have developed a new drone, Vesti reports.

The unique aircraft reportedly does not have wings, or tail, or body, and only has an engine, fan, and guide vanes. It can take off vertically upwards, move inside buildings, and land without a runway. The aircraft can fly autonomously either on a programmed route or by manual control. Its size may vary between 15 centimeters and two meters.

“The approach has numerous advantages over classic planes or helicopters. The fan enables the aircraft to fly in rough areas, near or inside buildings,” explained Dmitry Sharov, an engineer at TsAGI’s fan lab.

The innovation is currently being tested in a wind tunnel; open-air trials will follow.

The new drone can be used for intelligence purposes, as well as to record videos, move cargos, and patrol buildings and streets.
