Microsoft Seed Fund has given grants to two Russian medical startups – Alpha Smart Systems and Cloud Health Care, Digit.ru reports.

Normally Microsoft Seed Fund’s grants average between $30,000 and $100,000. Alpha Smart Systems reportedly received $40,000, and Cloud Health Care - $50,000.

Under partnership program between Microsoft and Skolkovo Foundation, both startups will receive same amounts from Skolkovo, the state-sponsored innovation hub under completion near Moscow, when they become its residents.

According to Gaidar Magdanurov, managing director of Microsoft Seed Fund, the fund chooses to finance projects in any sector. Selection criteria include a valid business-model, capable team, appropriate requested grant amount.

In addition, startups, applying for Microsoft grants, must use the corporation’s products in their solutions. Specifically, Alpha Smart Systems uses Windows Azure cloud technology and Visual Basic solution. Cloud Health Care also uses Azure cloud platform.

Alpha Smart Systems’ psychological tool allows to define psychological personality types and other specifics. The company’s special cameras detect changes in a person’s behavior during an interview. Authors believe their product can be used for employee recruitment purposes by businesses, law enforcement agencies. Banks too can use the technology during credit approval interviews.

Cloud Health Care is working on an online-service for diabetes patients that will monitor level of sugar in blood and recommend insulin dose. The technology will also be available in mobile application.

Aleksander Podgrebalny, the project leader and CEO of Cloud Health Care, plans to use Microsoft’s aid to create database of food products for diabetes patients, improve mobile application of the program for patients and create a new version of the program for doctors.
