28 Dec '11
Maxwell Photonix, a Moscow-based biotech company developing medical laser systems for soft and hard tissue surgery, is expected to launch next year pilot production of lasers to supply dental surgery, portal reports, citing a source familiar with company plans.
Project details have yet to be specified.
Maxwell Photonix is an asset owned by Maxwell Biotech and supported also by Russian Venture Company’s Seed Investment Fund. The firm is a resident of the Skolkovo innovation hub outside Moscow.
Maxwell Biotech is a group of developers and service companies that focus on the development of innovative biotech projects.
Marchmont has already reported on results that some of Maxwell’s assets have achieved. For example, its biotech company OncoMax completed in September reportedly successful pre-clinical trials of its cutting-edge humanized monoclonal antibody drug. The firm’s new drug is believed to be sophisticated enough to selectively pinpoint specific aims on a malignant cell in kidneys, disabling its development and resistance mechanisms.
Just a month later another asset, NeuroMax, announced successful completion of a series of pre-clinical trials of what is expected to emerge as Russia’s first drug for pathogenetic treatment of diabetic neuropathy. Its new pharmaceutical composition, designated NM-IA-001, is reportedly proved safe for animals.
