Profotec presents digital substation cell

Profotec, RUSNANO's project company, has presented a model of a cell of the first Russian digital substation, NanoNewsNet reports.
The model is reportedly based on a measuring current transformer with the digital interface, created on the basis of the unique optic nano-fiber. The presented cell featured also management and protection devices, made in Russia.
Large-scale production of new measuring transformers is scheduled to begin in Q1 2013.
“Despite the fact that the product of our project company has yet to be launched at the market, it has received high assessment of sector experts and got a honorable diploma in the nomination “Perspective Innovation” at the exhibition “Electrica Grids of Russia – 2011”. Besides, an agreement on cooperation was signed with the FSK , and the road map on attestation and implementation of measuring transformers of Profotec at the facilities of the main grid complex of the country has been developed,” Aleksander Kondrashov, RUSNANO’s management director, said
“We see large interest to our products, which is natural, as fiber-optic measuring transformers significantly increase safety of operation and possess higher characteristics in the part of accuracy and resistance to external impacts, if compared to electromagnet current transformers. In addition, the size and weight of our transformers is ten times less than that of traditional analogues. I am sure that in the next decade we’ll witness significant progress of technologies in the energy sector, and our company will play the key role in the process,” Sergey Sidorov, the director general of Profotec, said.
A digital substation is a substation with the smart secondary equipment, working under single digital data exchange protocols, descrbed by the international standards.
