DisplAir unveils its ‘cloud’ 3D display prototype

28 Nov '11
Russia’s DisplAir has made an operational prototype of its new touch-sensitive screenless display, or “cloud 3D screen” as the developers have christened it, portal Vesti-ru reports.

The ‘cloud’ display is released up in the air by a special projector. DisplAir is said to be able to create any image, be it an HD video or a still picture.

The ‘cloud’ that comes up is eco-friendly and safe, the developers claim, and impacts the human senses; it can be touched, hear, and even smell.

The display also supports multi-touch, enabling multiple moves with its infrared camera sensor.

DisplAir responds to commands with a 0.2sec delay (reportedly a little longer than Microsoft Kinect with its 0.1sec delay).

In addition to broad moves other game systems easily cope with the ‘cloud’ can recognize up to 1,500 points of contact accurately within a centimeter. The 3D screen can be between 40 and 140 inches wide.

It will take some time before the DisplAir products hit the market, as the company is still looking for investors. An innovative display will reportedly cost between $4,000 and $30,000.
