24 Oct '11
Fast Lane Ventures has announced plans to launch service of questions and answers OdinOtvet in the Internet by the end of October, RBC daily reports citing the company’s director Tatyana Tsvetkova.
The platform is reportedly to be based on the closed social network, where experts will be providing quality answers on customers’ questions.
Total cost of creating the service is reportedly to come in at $2m, with $200,000 invested to date.
“Fast Lane intends to get together a group of experts on a wide range of questions, and these people are to provide informational content of the site. Each question and answer can be edited in order to achieve more specific definitions and meanings,” Ms. Tsvetkova said.
OdinOtvet is not the first Q&A service in Internet. Thus, in America ASK.com has been working quite successfully. In Russian so far there’s only one service Otvety@mail.ru in this segment. According to Mail.ru Group, their resource is in demand with advertisers and yields stable monthly profir. “According to Mail.ru data, in August 2011 service users number totaled 22.9 million people, and in September the number of visitors grew up to 25.4 million people. Otvety@mail.ru is also a leader in giving rare requests,” the company said.
Maksim Medvedev, the managing partner of the fund Addventure, believes that the most rational way to monetize such resource is through context integrated advertisement and joining a larger number of partnership programs. “For example, the ask.com monetizes part of its traffic through placing relevant product offers from Amazon. The success of the business-model is to depend on the team, mostly developers and moderators, who are to be responsible for the content quality,” the expert said. “As far as I can remember most of services like this one failed. Otvety@mail.ru became more like a social network because of a large amount of low-quality content. Google tried to do something similar but did not succeed,” Igor Ashmanov, the director general of the company “Ashmanov and Partners” added.
