28 Sep '12
A new innovation infrastructure project, North-West Technology Transfer Center, is being set up in the Gatchina district of the Leningrad region outside St. Petersburg, the official Leningrad regional administration website reports.

The region is reportedly partnering in the project with Russia’s nanotech flagship, Rusnano. Leningrad Region Governor Alexander Drozdenko and Rusnano president Anatoly Chubais have recently discussed details of the project.

Under plans, the North-West Technology Transfer Center will focus on radiation-related areas, including modern material science, an array of medical applications, and electronics.

The Center is also expected to collaborate in its activity with the nearby Petersburg Konstantinov Institute of Nuclear Physics, a leading Russian think-tank located in the Gatchina district.

The North-West Technology Transfer Center project will reportedly require over $30m in investment, including an estimated $11m kicked in by the Leningrad region.
