The Altay Republic book a long stay in the tourist industry

28 Nov '07
In Gorny-Altaisk, Alexander Berdnikov, the head of the Altay Republic, launched an economic forum with the name Gorny-Altay 2007: Investment as a kind of development.
More than 400 people took part in the operation of the forum, including representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development, of the RosOEZ organization (the Russian organisation which decides special economic zones), and of businesses both great and small.
One of the most ambitious ideas introduced was the project by the tourist and recreation agency Altay Valley in the Mayminsk region of the republic, which would need more than 900 million dollars for the project to be realized.

A unique geographical location, favourable weather conditions and ecology make the Altay Republic, for the tourist industry, a shrewd investment for the future. In March of this year in the Mayminsky and Chemalsky regions a Specialized Economic Zone was set up with a size of 855 hectares, to be devoted solely to the tourist and recreation industries. The priority areas for this Specialized Economic Zone are ecology, sport and tourism.
