South Ural State University (SUSU), centered in Chelyabinsk, has set up a network of sector-oriented technoparks (technology parks)in cooperation with local area businesses.
One of the planned technoparks, supported by Chelyabinsk Mineralnaya Plita (Mineral Plate) factory, is expected to develop and manufacture innovative construction materials.
The currently operating technopark, SUSU-Polyot, has drawn together about 30 companies engaged in a wide range of activities varying from nanotech projects to crystal growth. The initial capital inflow from the regional budget, aimed to promote the emerging technopark, is 8.3 million rubles ($336,577). Currently, the organization is entirely self-financed.
