Rocks in Kurgan region can generate oil

26 Sep '07
Experts of oil and gas extraction company Zauralneftegaz have discovered there is oil in the Kurgan region and rocks can generate it. They came to this conclusion when they started drilling an exploratory and delineation well in Mokrousovsky district.

The previous well was drilled in March 2007, but in July the same year those works were suspended until the extracted material was properly studied.

Zauralneftegaz plans to begin drilling two more wells before the end of 2007. For this project the company plans to earmark 150 million rubles ($6m).

The Kurgan region extracts 15 kinds of raw materials, including bentonite clays, uranium, mineral water and common brick. The reserves of bentonite clays constitute 1/3 of Russias total reserves of this material.
