Bypasses around Balakhna and Zavolzhie to be completed in 2010

14 Sep '07
It is projected to complete bypasses construction around Balakhna and Zavolzhie in 2010. The bypasses are built as part of the R-152 automobile highway connecting Shopsha (the Yaroslavl region), Ivanovo and Nizhny Novgorod.

According to Valery Anglichaninov, acting Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, construction is being carried out in accordance with the schedule. The first stage of bypasses construction will be completed and enter service in June 2008. Construction of the second stage is to be finished in 2010.

Mr. Anglichaninov says bypasses will help to solve traffic problems on the Gorky reservoir levee that is not designed for heavy traffic. The R-152 automobile highway is very important for transport communications in the Nizhny Novgorod, Ivanovo, Kostroma and Yaroslavl regions.

The project costs are split in two halves between the regional and the local budgets. In 2007 it is projected to earmark 1.142 billion rubles ($45.6m) for the construction launch.
