Norilsk considers Nizhniy Novgorod titanium-zirconium deposit

During the course of 2008 the local authorities of the Nizhny Novgorod region plan to work on the issues related to mining of the deposit of titanium-zirconium sands located in the Lukoyanov district (the Nizhny Novgorod region).

According to the authorities of the Lukoyanov district, the deposits of titanium-zirconium-sands amount to 30.877 million cubic meters.

At the moment Nizhny Novgorod based company Geostar is licensed to mine the deposit.

In 2006 Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Valery Shantsev started speaking about the interest Norilsk Nickel, which is the world's largest producer of palladium and nickel, one of the leading platinum producers and one of the largest copper producers, expressed in developing the Lukoyanov deposit and in setting up a mining and processing factory there.

Prospective clients of the factory are nuclear industry, aircraft and rocket builders, metallurgic factories and paint and coatings industry.
