$1.45bn 2010 platinoid kick-off eyed

Murmansk Region has plans to invest $1.45bn in construction of an ore mining and processing factory based on the Fyodorova Tundra platinoid deposit, Murmansk regional Minister for Economic Development Yuri Yefremov announced today.

The development of the deposit will kick off next year, he said. The projected ore-processing capacity of the prospective factory is a reported 16 million tons a year.

According to the minister, the new facility will employ 700+ people.

The Fyodorova Tundra platinoid deposit is located 800 kilometers off the town of Apatity; it reportedly contains disseminated impregnations of platinum, palladium, gold, copper, and nickel.
