Koreans want Sakhalin coal imports up to 2 mil.

South Korean businesses expect to augment their coal imports from Sakhalin to 2 million tons a year, a source in the Sakhalin regional administration said today.

Korean Investment Co. and the Hyundai group of companies have shown specific interest, the source said.

Proven reserves in the Solntsevskoe deposit in Uglegorsky District are said to be about 150 million tons of coal, while speculative estimates reportedly say its as much as 2 billion tons.
