Magadan’s 2008 silver mining upped, gold downed

In 2008, Magadan Region’s miners extracted more than 613 tons of silver, which is nine tons up from 2007 results, RIA Novosti reported today, citing regional officials.

Alluvial gold production reportedly amounted to 10.4 tons, which is near the 2007 result. However, companies dug up just 4.27 tons of gold ore, down 865 kilograms from 2007, the officials said.
