Chukotka gold nears its all-time high

8 Dec '09
Chukotka gold miners have produced 27.7 tons of gold and 242.7 tons of by-product silver since January, regional officials announced today.

It is a reported 42.8% year-on-year increase.

According to Chukotka Governor Roman Kolpin, the regions overall 2009 gold production plan is 30 tons.

If the goal is met, Chukotka will come just short of the 1970s 35-ton all-time high, the officials added.
