$400m Primorsky dockyards to employ 4,000

5 Nov '09
About 4,000 workers will be employed at Primorsky Region’s two new dockyards, regional officials said today.

Marchmont reported agreements that Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corp. (USC) inked in October on construction of the dockyards with Singapore’s Yantai Raffles and S. Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

The dockyard in the town of Fokino, in which Yantai plans to invest between $100m and $200m, will be reportedly building drilling equipment, oil platforms, and related machinery.

The other dockyard in Primorsky’s town of Bolshoi Kamen, to be built on the premises of the local Zvezda factory, will construct heavy-tonnage ships like gas-carrying tankers, drill ships, and ocean-going LNG plants. Daewoo is reportedly expected to put $200m in it.

According to the officials’ most recent announcement, dockyard construction will start in the first half of 2010.
