About 4,000 workers will be employed at Primorsky Regionís two new dockyards, regional officials said today.
Marchmont reported agreements that Russiaís United Shipbuilding Corp. (USC) inked in October on construction of the dockyards with Singaporeís Yantai Raffles and S. Koreaís Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.
The dockyard in the town of Fokino, in which Yantai plans to invest between $100m and $200m, will be reportedly building drilling equipment, oil platforms, and related machinery.
The other dockyard in Primorskyís town of Bolshoi Kamen, to be built on the premises of the local Zvezda factory, will construct heavy-tonnage ships like gas-carrying tankers, drill ships, and ocean-going LNG plants. Daewoo is reportedly expected to put $200m in it.
According to the officialsí most recent announcement, dockyard construction will start in the first half of 2010.
