Tomsk’s Elecard Group has launched $535k production of a new multipurpose home multimedia appliance, Elecard iTelec, reports, citing Elecard president Andrei Pozdnyakov.
The new product will reportedly provide a ‘marriage’ of a digital TV add-on and a pay terminal that gives access to both government services and a variety of interactive services. The system offers one an opportunity to receive consultations about government services and pay tax and duties right from home.
To cover the project cost the company has reportedly opened a $535k, 18-month renewable line of credit with a Tomsk branch of Promsvyazbank.
According to Mr. Pozdnyakov, the first production run will include “about 10,000 units.” He declined to comment on longer-term production plans saying it was “confidential information.”
The Elecard president said circuit boards for the systems would be outsourced from Taiwanese and Chinese partners.
Elecard is a resident of the Tomsk special economic zone (SEZ). The firm focuses on the development of software for encoding, decoding, processing, transmission and receiving of video and audio data in a range of formats.
