Kamchatka approves $117m fishing program

23 Nov '09
Kamchatka has approved its long-term fish breeding and production program to be in effect through 2012, REGNUM reports, citing a source in the regional government.

Under plans, over the next three years the sector will receive more than $117m in predominantly federal support.

The program implementation is expected to boost Kamchatka’s seafood production to 850,000 tons a year by 2012, the source said.

The region’s fishing sector gives more than half of Kamchatka’s industrial output and accounts for over 90% of its exports.
