Northwest Siberia outlines its world-class medical cluster project

29 Aug '13
The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Region, also known as Yugra, in Northwest Siberia is developing its own modern medical cluster, the Yugra government website announced.

Our strategy is to focus on developing a Yugra multifunctional medical cluster to be managed in accordance with international standards, the official portal quoted Governor Natalia Komarova of Yugra as saying.

Ms. Komarova underscored that the biomed innovation cluster project would pursue a three-pronged goal of fostering regional medical treatment opportunities, developing recreation facilities, and putting together the basis for world-class medical tourism. It is not only aimed at improving domestic healthcare; the cluster is also expected to emerge as an attractive destination for residents of other Russian regions as well as other countries, willing to receive high-quality medical services and medical education.

The project will require an initial investment of about $43m to come over the next two years from the regional Mandatory Medical Insurance Fund.
