Omsk region tests ash-cinder soil amelioration method

A new technology of land amelioration using ash cinder materials is being tested in Omsk region, Venture Business News reports.

The project is reportedly carried out by power generating company TGC-11 and scientists of the Omsk State Agrarian University named after P.A. Stolypin. The project is supported by the regional Government.

According to news site Omskportal.ru, the test batch of the ameliorant containing ash cinder materials was put into saline soil fields of one of the farms in the region’s Maryanovsky municipal district. The project goal is to significantly increase the quality of the soil fertility. Granulated ameliorant is spread in the plow top-soil layerand to improve the ground structure.

According to the source in the Omsk region Ministry of Industry, in fact, the new innovative method of soil amelioration is being tried in the region. The method’s main advantages are relative simplicity of technological cycle and not large financial expenses. Under the forecast, using ash-cinder granulated ameliorant is to result in higher crop yield by 10 centners per hectare.

Omsk region is one of the leaders in Russia in efficient use of ash cinder. The ash-cinder materials are used in production of energy-efficient building materials, as well as supplied for processing into other regions, specifically, Moscow and Kemerovo regions.

The Omsk State Agrarian University is the higher education institution in the city of Omsk. The first Agrarian Institute in Siberia was founded in 1918. In the spring of 1994 Omsk State Agrarian University was founded through reorganization of three Institutes (Agricultural Institute, Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Institute of Specialists Retraining and Agrarian Business). Now the University structure includes Institutes of Economics and Finance, of Veterinary Medicine, of Ground Management, part-time study and professional development, Tara branch University, Agrarian College, 12 departments, Centre of pre-university training and professional diagnosis, experimental field, linguistics center, spare time centre, students’ club, sports and museum complex of History and Education. Besides, there are research laboratories in the University.
