Social network Farmbook expands to global markets
26 Jan '12
The Russian Internet agricultural market Farmbook has entered the global markets, innovation and venture news source reports.
The network’s database now includes not only domestic, but also European and US agricultural firms and producers.
The service developers, having added support of English, Spanish and German languages, expect that it will now be easier for Russian companies to find partners for exporting their products.
The main idea of Farmbook is to bring together producers and buyers from any regions and countries without any intermediate parties. During the first year of the project existence it received interest of about 720,000 visitors, and over 10,000 offers have been formed in Russia.
“Since I have been working in the agricultural sector for a long time I deeply understand needs of the market participants. That is why I decided to create a database, where all participants will be able to tell about themselves, their occupations, their needs for production, sales, and what they need to buy. Now they will be able to see which companies there are in the neighborhood. We have many other ideas that can be realized. Specifically, the website will not only contain supply and demand, but also the trading system, it will hold auctions, sales and purchases of products and equipment,” Bjorne Drechsler, the aurhor of the Internet project Farmbook.info, said.
Sellers and buyers of fodder, materials and equipment are registered at the website, tag their location on the map, and indicate which products they want to sell or buy, supplementing comments with photos and videos.
After registration users can start looking for partners or suppliers in a number of ways – from simple studying of the map to search through products categories. If one comes across an interesting offer, he or she can contact the provider directly, without intermediation of Farmbook.
