$18bn electricity exports to fund Far East grids

The development of electrical networks in Russias Far East will be funded from Inter RAO UES electricity sales to China, RF vice-premier Igor Sechin announced today.

Inter RAO UES reportedly inked in February an $18bn agreement with Chinas State Grid Corporation (SGC) on energy exports from Russias Amur Region. Electricity exports are expected to top 1 billion kilowatt-hours by the end of the year.

Inter RAO UES is Russias major energy exporter. Its authorized capital is $7.3bn; the RF government owns 57.3%.
