Russo-Japanese energy projects estimated at $780m

13 May '09
Russias RusHydro and Japans Mitsui and J-Power have inked a MoU regarding cooperation in the Far East wind power station project eyed in Primorsky Region, RusHydro reported earlier today.

The estimated cost of construction of the wind power station is $93.8m, Russias largest energy-generating company said.

Upon completion of due diligence the Japanese companies will reportedly co-invest in construction with an estimated 50% of the total cost.

Construction of the wind power station will reportedly kick off in 2010 and is to be completed in Q1 2012.

The reported capacity of the new wind station is an estimated 36MW. According to RusHydro, two locations are now being considered, namely, the Isle of Russky and the Isle of Popova next to the city of Vladivostok.

As RusHydro claims, long-term, a few wind power complexes are eyed in Primorsky Region with the aggregate capacity of 200MW.

RusHydro and the two Japanese companies have also signed a memo of intent as regards the Nizhne-Bureiskaya hydroelectric power station project in Amur Region, the Russian generating company said.

Nizhne-Bureiskaya is a second stage of the hydroelectric power generation complex on the River Bureya in the region.

An estimated $687.5m in capital expenditure is reportedly expected for this project.

According to RusHydro, Nizhne-Bureiskaya design work began as early as late 1980s only to be shelved as the crisis 90s came. In 2006, the project was resurrected.

Nizhne-Bureiskayas projected capacity is reportedly 320MW with an average of 1.67 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year to be generated.

RusHydro is the worlds second largest hydro-energy generator with the installed capacity of more than 25GW. The company has a reported 15% share in the Russian market.
