23 Jul '08
State-owned Rosatom is investing more than $11.5bn in construction of a Yuzhnouralsk power station near Chelyabinsk, the company has announced.

Rosatom is considering a site 15 km away from Ozersk as preferable for construction.

Construction works are to start in 2012, and commissioning is expected by 2020.

Experts estimate that four power units will produce 4.6GW of power to fully satisfy the region’s demands.

Moreover, the planned Yuzhnouralsk power station will create more than 3,000 jobs.
