$778m worth of promises for Sakhalin energy aired

Construction of the Sakhalin GRES-2 power station worth $611m on the Uglegorsk coal deposits in Sakhalin is scheduled for completion in 2015, RIA Novosti reported today, citing regional officials.

Sakhalin Governor Alexander Khoroshavin claims the design stage of the GRES-2 project will start this year.

Another $167m will be spent on an upgrade of Sakhalins electricity grids, regional government sources said.

The RF government has earmarked a total of $1bn for Sakhalin energy systems, RIA reports, which is more than for any other region in Russias Far East.
