Russian developer unveils competitors to Oculus and Vive VR headsets

13 Sep '17
DEUS, a Russian developer of innovative headsets for virtual reality, has rolled out new products which the company claims beat some of the world’s most market-winning today, such as HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, Hi-news.ru reported.

One of these, the Odin DK2, is said to be the world’s smallest headset with a quite competitive screen resolution of 2,880x 1,440 pixels and a 110 degree angle of view. According to the source, the Odin DK2 generates a “much higher-quality image than in the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift while system requirements are lower than in the Western competitors.” It takes a user just five minutes to customize the headset’s settings, the developer said.

The other product is called “Svarog.” The Svarog is reported to be able to offer a 5K res image with a 170 degree angle of view. With the characteristics the developer claims it has the headset might be a perfect solution for pilots to use on flight simulators with very realistic images.

According to DEUS, both hardware and software have been developed in Russia “from the ground up.” Imported electronic components are gradually being replaced by Russian-made analogs, the company said.
